Instead of surveying the 10 most popular sites we have decided to provide you with some background information on the ten most active Curriculum website managers for 2008 based on their logins.

Here we talk to Mlamli Matshingana, manager of the FET isiXhosa website, that received 18 732 hits during this period.

You have dedicated many hours to managing your website. Why?

It is a team effort. When I was appointed as senior curriculum planner on the 1st of June 2007, I started working very hard, together with my team, to build sound human relations among ourselves and among educators teaching isiXhosa at FET level. We identified electronic communication as a niche that we could utilise to communicate better and transform our isiXhosa brand in order to attract more consumers. Thanks to all FET isiXhosa e-curriculum advisors, Hennie, Nandipha, Jaywant and my subject committee members for their unwavering support. Thanks also to Vodacom for renting out their 3G card to me and to my family and myself for paying monthly bills consistently.

What are your plans for your website in the coming 12 months?

We intend to expand our database to include all FET isiXhosa educators across the province. We also intend to work with higher education Institutions more closely so that we can also include students who are also studying isiXhosa in our database.

What are you currently reading?

Ubulumko bezinja, a very informative isiXhosa book which can be related to Animal Farm, I must admit, I do not know why I am reading it at this point in time in our history. Maybe, I will get the answer one day.

What was your favourite film the past 12 months?

I guess, I am not the only who watched this one, Ramifications of the post-Polokwane conference.

People of your calibre are often driven, highly creative and/or have some secret formula for their success. What drives you and, if you have a formula or just some home-spun advice, please would you share it with us?

I strongly believe in teamwork, but it must be managed very well. For me, this philosophy is not only applicable in my home life, but also, in my work life. As a leader, you must acknowledge talents, skills and knowledge in your team members. No favouritism, please, I hate that.

Other than managing your website, what else do you do for fun?

I really enjoy taking time out away from my laptop, listening to birds singing, watching nature, with my wife, Yolisa and my 3 kids, Somsa, Ntsasa and Refilwe.
