Jaywant Parbhoo, the most active curriculum website manager
Instead of surveying the 10 most popular sites we have decided to provide you with some background information on the ten most active Curriculum website managers for 2008 based on their logins. Here we talk to Jaywant Parbhoo, manager of the Assessment: Senior Certificate website, which received 38 085 hits during this period.
Why do you think your website received so many hits?
Thanks for the recognition, and to my colleagues for all their input and support.
The Grade 11 page, with its exemplars, created a lot of interest. We then generated additional interest with the Grade 11 memoranda, which we also sent out by e-mail. However, teachers found that the website gave them a swifter service. The buzz, this year, is around the implementation of FET (Further Education and Training and we need to provide a service for the Western Cape (and anyone else who requires it). For example, the externally set preparatory examinations for Grade 12 will not be written in the Western Cape. Instead we have requested our schools to set their own September exams and to use time more effectively for teaching and learning. We will, however, supply the externally set papers and memoranda to our schools via the web.
What are your plans for your website in the coming 12 months?
Creating a buzz around the first writing of the National Senior Certificate. We have uploaded the Grade 12 exemplars on our Policy page. The page is quite busy, one has to scroll down to the Learning Support table where one will find the exemplars.
What are you currently reading?
Academic stuff for my Masters, and the Monk who Sold his Ferrari by Robin Sharma.
People of your calibre are often driven, highly creative and/or have some secret formula for their success. What drives you and, if you have a formula or just some home-spun advice, please would you share it with us?
Positive thoughts, love for my country and a can-do attitude.
Other than managing your website what else do you do for fun?
Playing with my three children and chilling out with family and friends.
