Rationale

The rationale behind developing the work schedules were:

  • a WCED (Western Cape Education Department) response to national and provincial imperatives
  • an attempt at demystifying OBE (Outcome Based Education) and the NCS (National Curriculum Statement)
  • to make the implicit explicit (i.e. fill the gaps, pace the work, sequence the work etc.)
  • to ensure less clutter and remove jargon
  • to ensure that teachers have a common understanding of the learning outcomes and assessment standards
  • to ensure that teachers address the prescribed knowledge focus framework in the NCS; and to achieve a common work pace within the province.

Format

The work schedule will include what the teacher must teach weekly.

The teacher’s guide will include the following aspects:

  • methodology
  • integration
  • assessment
  • resources

We hope that teachers will find these documents helpful, clear, and practical.

Hello Noleen I have been going through the Western Cape Education Department website, as I often do, and I came across the fantastic work you and your team have done by producing the work schedules and guides for the GET (Intermediate phase). My question: do you have any similar materials for grade 8 and 9? I only managed to find your resources list for these grades (which are also quite useful) but would greatly appreciate having siilar materials as for the grade 4 to 6. Your help will be greatly appreciated Kind regards Vusi Masuku Geography educator
