Rationale
The rationale behind developing the work schedules were:
- a WCED (Western Cape Education Department) response to national and provincial imperatives
- an attempt at demystifying OBE (Outcome Based Education) and the NCS (National Curriculum Statement)
- to make the implicit explicit (i.e. fill the gaps, pace the work, sequence the work etc.)
- to ensure less clutter and remove jargon
- to ensure that teachers have a common understanding of the learning outcomes and assessment standards
- to ensure that teachers address the prescribed knowledge focus framework in the NCS; and to achieve a common work pace within the province.
Format
The work schedule will include what the teacher must teach weekly.
The teacher’s guide will include the following aspects:
- methodology
- integration
- assessment
- resources
We hope that teachers will find these documents helpful, clear, and practical.
