The National Science Olympiad

The National Science Olympiad is a countrywide science competition, which is held annually for grade 10 to 12 learners. The competition is aimed at stimulating interest among young learners to study towards careers in the science and technology disciplines. The actual examination comprises two sections - physical science (ie physics and chemistry) and biology. Learners are given the option of writing either physical science or biology paper.

The top performers stand a chance to win exciting prizes and an all-expenses-paid trip to the London International Youth Science Forum. The British Council sponsored top learners to attend the 2007 London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF).

Critical Thinking Group 

 

The development of critical thinking in learners is a key curriculum requirement for both the GET and FET bands, the rationale being that people who can think critically will be able to address the challenges of a rapidly changing world. Below are a number of pictures of teachers attending a training session by CPUT at the Cape Academy for Mathematics, Science and Technology.

While preparing for the implementation of the NCS for the FET Band in 2006 and the RNCS for the senior phase in the GET Band, it is vital that we also investigate the latest development of the use of ICT in the 21st century biology/science laboratory. Read more
