A number of student assistant posts for full-time students, and merit bursaries for part-time as well as full-time study, are available for all fields of study. Additional bursaries for literature study are also available for which prospective students may apply.

    If you are involved in a career in education or language and communication services, the new Honours and Master's degrees in African languages will be of benefit to you, since these degrees will provide you with continued professional development to become an influential roleplayer in your professional environment.

    The specific areas of knowledge and skills that you will acquire will empower you to meet the challenges that lie ahead for language educators in Curriculum 2005, and for language and communication practitioners in the government and private sector in implementing multilingual language policy.

Courses are presented on a full-time basis or through part-time modular learning: You can study at our beautiful town of Stellenbosch near Cape Town to on a full-time basis or you may study part-time from home through modular learning, and visit Stellenbosch for a two-week lecture series.

b.a. honours degree in african languages

Students have a choice of study components from a variety of specialisation areas, including: Literature, Communication, Literacy and Language Teaching, Linguistics (Sociolinguistics, Pragmatics, Syntax, Morphology, Semantics).

Admission requirements: A B.A. degree with an African language as major. Prospective students who did not have an African language up to third year level for their BA degree, may study the required transition modules through modular study from home within one year.

master's degree in african languages

Students may choose to study an aria of specialisation which they are interested from a variety of fields, including literature, linguistics, communication or language teaching. The Master's degree includes a coursework component and writing a thesis which entails research in a specific field. The Master's research aspect equips students to become leaders at the forefront in their respective specialisation fields.

Admission requirements: B.A. Honours in African languages. 

m.a. degree in african languages for professional contexts

This is a brand-new Masters degree specially designed for the training of language practitioners and communication officers in the government and private sector who are responsible for advancing the status and use of the African languages in accordance with a multilingual language policy. This Masters degree programme is essential for language practitioners in organisations and companies that strive to take the lead in the practice of multilingual language policy.

Admission requirements: B.A. degree with an African language as major subject. Prospective students who did not have an African language up to third year level for their BA degree can study the required transition modules through modular study from home within one year.
